We're seeking an experienced Café Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our café and support the delivery of catering and events. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines operational administration with working shifts on the floor, leading by example and supporting the team during service.
About the role
The Café Manager plays a key leadership role, responsible for ensuring smooth, safe and high-quality café operations while fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture. You'll work closely with the Director, Business Co-ordinator and Kitchen Lead to maintain service standards, support staff development, and contribute to the ongoing success of the business.
This role involves a mix of administrative responsibilities and active service work, including opening and closing shifts, supporting the team during busy periods, and being present on the floor.
You will also assist with the coordination and delivery of catering and events, including planning, staffing, logistics and on-the-day operations as required.
Key responsibilities include:
* Overseeing the daily operations of the café to ensure efficient, high-quality service
* Working hands-on during service while managing operational and administrative tasks
* Coordinating front-of-house and back-of-house activities alongside the Kitchen Lead
* Managing rostering, timesheets and daily workflow planning
* Monitoring stock levels, ordering and supplier coordination
* Supporting the planning and delivery of catering and events
* Ensuring food safety, hygiene, cleaning and WHS standards are met at all times
* Leading, mentoring and supporting staff, including onboarding and training
* Acting as a key point of contact between staff and management
* Contributing to continuous improvement of systems, processes and team practices
About you
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
* Proven experience in a similar café or hospitality management role
* Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and operational management
* A strong understanding of café operations, customer service and food & beverage standards
* Solid knowledge of food safety, hygiene and workplace health & safety practices
* Strong communication skills and a confident, supportive leadership style
* The ability to balance administration with hands-on floor leadership
* Availability to work some weekends and evenings
* An Approved Manager certificate (ideal but not essential)
