Queensland Aphasia Research Centre (QARC) | School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Flexible part-time (50% FTE), fixed-term position through to 30 June 2028 Base salary will range from $95,361 - $102,302 (HEW Level 6) 17% Superannuation Based at the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) at our Herston campus About This Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Speech Pathologist to provide leadership for consumer engagement in the Queensland Aphasia Research Centre (QARC), a UQ centre operating in partnership with the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS). QARC is committed to optimising the lives of people living with aphasia through research, service, and partnerships and is the first centre of its kind in Australia. As the Consumer and Community Involvement Coordinator, you will play a critical role in directing and operationalising the QARC governance structure ensuring consumer engagement in QARC research activities and Centre Operations. Reporting to Emma Caird, you will support priority areas for the centre including consumer involvement in all stages of research and participant recruitment for research. Key responsibilities will include: Lead and coordinate QARC consumer engagement: Develop, manage, and support consumer groups, advisory groups, and the participation registry to enable meaningful consumer involvement in QARC research activities. Strengthen partnerships and networks: Build relationships with consumers, clinicians, and partner organisations to expand the QARC consumer network and support collaborative engagement. Provide strategic guidance and support: Apply specialist knowledge to improve consumer engagement processes, contribute to research projects, advise staff, and help shape the future strategy of QARC consumer involvement. About You Our ideal candidate will possess: Relevant degree in Speech Pathology with experience coordinating activities; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Demonstrated experience in consumer and community involvement in applied clinical, health services, or health-related research, with an understanding of current consumer engagement frameworks and practices. Strong research knowledge and skills, including the use of a range of specialist and general research techniques and consumer engagement methods. Advanced knowledge of aphasia and experience working with people with aphasia, their families, and clinicians in a clinical and/or research setting. Relevant experience in a clinical research role, preferably within an aphasia research environment, including project coordination and working with multiple stakeholders. Highly developed organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills, including project documentation, report writing, and the ability to convey complex clinical or scientific information to diverse audiences. Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks including verification of the right to work in Australia (employer-sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment) and mandatory immunisations. This may also include checks relating to gender-based violence matters or other integrity and conduct requirements.
