Primary objective
The role encompasses technical expertise in finance, business management and compliance, working collaboratively with
internal and external stakeholders to provide budget development, reporting and provision of financial advice to
continuously improve decision making in a Public Health System.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in leading the finance team to achieve required outcomes ensuring services are being delivered effectively,
efficiently and sustainably to clients and NT Health on contemporary financial policy initiatives to assist in meeting agreed
financial targets, productivity and efficiencies.
1. Provide financial advice in a dynamic, high transaction environment, including budget development, financial reporting
and analysis for both revenue and expenditure, within strict timelines and assuring integrity and accuracy of data.
1. Continuous process improvement to strengthen compliance and internal controls within the agency's financial and
reporting obligations under the Financial Management Act, Treasury Circulars, other NT legislation as well as relevant
Commonwealth legislation and Agreements.
1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
1. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to prioritise and deliver budget development, cash flows, accruals and complex monthly reports on
financial and activity targets for both revenue and expenditure including performance reports, funding acquittals and
reconciliations.
1. High level analytical skills, having used complex financial systems to extract and interrogate financial data to analyse
variance to budgets and identify the drivers of that variance.
1. Demonstrated contemporary knowledge of accounting and financial principles, practices and standards.
2. Ability to interpret and understand Funding Service Agreements and other contractual arrangements with external
parties.
5. Ability in identification and implementation of process improvement to strengthen internal controls and compliance.
6. High level communication skills, both written and verbal, across a broad and varied stakeholder group, including an ability
to work with and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or related business discipline and/or extensive experience in an appropriate
finance role.
2. Experience working in the Health Sector.
