Medical Secretary Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and friendly medical secretary to support the smooth running of our single-doctor practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical reception or administrative role, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

The successful applicant will be responsible for greeting and assisting patients with professionalism and care, scheduling and managing appointments, maintaining accurate electronic and paper medical records, handling phone calls, emails, and patient inquiries, coordinating referrals, pathology, and specialist communications, processing Medicare and private billing using practice software, and ensuring the reception area is tidy and organized.


Key Responsibilities:

* Greet and assist patients with professionalism and care
* Schedule and manage appointments
* Maintain accurate electronic and paper medical records
* Handle phone calls, emails, and patient inquiries
* Coordinate referrals, pathology, and specialist communications
* Process Medicare and private billing using practice software
* Ensure the reception area is tidy and organized


Required Skills and Qualifications:

* Experience in a medical reception or administrative role
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently in a small team environment
* Familiarity with medical software (e.g., Best Practice, Medical Director, or Xestro)
* Understanding of Medicare billing processes
* High level of discretion and attention to detail
