Census workforce supervisor

The ABS is looking to recruit several Workforce Supervisors to manage Census Response Coding Officers. You'll help ensure the quality and accuracy of Census data. You will work in a busy, task-focused environment where accuracy and meeting timeframes are key. Full training is provided, and you'll be supported throughout the project.

These positions require staff to work onsite at the ABS Office in Belconnen with no opportunity to work from home.

The key duties of the position include:

As a Workforce Supervisor you will:

* supervise and manage a team, clearly communicating work progress, issues, and key decisions
* allocate and monitor workloads to ensure Census targets and objectives are met
* provide technical and procedural support to Census office staff
* resolve or escalate complex queries and operational issues
* undertake performance management and coaching of staff when required
* coordinate training development and deliver face-to-face training sessions
* monitor operational intelligence and implement process improvements
* ensure confidentiality and security of Census information and materials
* manage responses to incidents and crises, including WHS reporting
* undertake a combination of procedural, operational, and administrative duties.

The people you will be supervising in this role are Response Coding Officers undertaking the following duties:

* review and interpret Census answers about people's address, employment and demographic details, following approved guidelines and exercising good judgment to correctly place each response into the right statistical category, geographic area and family or household type
* match Census forms to the correct address, ensuring dwellings and occupants are recorded correctly
* check answers that the computer system could not read properly, fix mistakes, and make sure the information is accurate
* look over any answers the computer couldn't read, fix anything that seems wrong, and help make sure the information makes sense
* investigate and confirm responses missed by automated systems, resolving discrepancies to maintain data integrity
* complete assigned tasks within required time limits, contributing to the timely delivery of Census data.
Eligibility

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:

Essential Skills

* leadership skills to manage a team of approximately 20 staff (APS 4 and APS 2 levels)
* strong organisational and time management skills to allocate and monitor workloads
* ability to foster a high-performance, inclusive team culture
* good judgement in resolving day-to-day operational issues and escalating complex matters
* effective communication and people skills for team coordination and coaching
* ability to learn and use office systems quickly.

Highly Desirable

* experience in recruitment and performance management
* training and coaching experience
* coordination or workforce scheduling experience.
