A major bank is seeking a Websphere Engineer to join a mainframe infrastructure team. This is an initial 12 month contract likely to extend.
*Responsibilities:*
* Install, configure, and maintain WebSphere Application Server environments.
* Troubleshoot connectivity between WAS and backend systems (MQ, DB2, z/OS Connect).
* Manage application deployments, upgrades, and patching across environments
* Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis
* Apply fix packs and perform environment health checks for high availability
* Assist the deployment of REST APIs that expose CICS, IMS, and DB2 services through z/OS Connect.
* Troubleshoot API integration issues (e.g., data conversion, special character handling, ASCII/EBCDIC mismatches).
* Monitor API performance and optimize throughput using SMF and Splunk analytics.
* Collaborate with application teams to validate payload structures and resolve integration limitations.
*Key Skills/ Experience:*
* Strong hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server
* Solid understanding of middleware architecture, JVM tuning, and performance optimization
* Experience with mainframe environments and z/OS Connect is highly desirable
* Financial Services highly desirable
