Join a high performing team that manages complex and sensitive claims on behalf of the Commonwealth. The team is responsible for overseeing a wide range of insurable losses, covering approximately 170 entities through the Australian Government's self-insurance framework.
You will contribute to significant and high profile matters that often involve legal, policy and reputational considerations.
Your new role
As an APS6 Claims Officer, you will manage a portfolio of complex and high-impact claims. This includes matters defined as significant claims under the Legal Services Directions 2017, many of which involve sensitive issues.
In this role, you will:
1. Lead the end-to-end management of intricate claims and provide clear, well-reasoned advice.
2. Identify legal and policy risks and brief senior executives and stakeholders effectively.
3. Build and maintain relationships across government and with external service providers.
4. Support and guide team members through strong leadership and people management capability.
5. Contribute to strategic thinking, risk management and broader team initiatives.
6. Navigate sensitive, emotionally confronting or complex material with discretion and professionalism.Strong wellbeing frameworks and support structures are in place for all team members due to the nature of the work. What you'll need to succeed The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

10. Excellent written and verbal communication.
11. Proven leadership or capability to support and mentor others.

13. Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver within tight timeframes.
14. Experience in legal, insurance, project or program management (highly regarded).A baseline clearance as well as experience as an APS6 in the Australian Public Service is required for this position.
