**THE POSITION**
The Emergency Consultant provides clinical leadership in the provision of coordinated, high quality emergency clinical services for the Hospital.
The Emergency consultant is responsible for ensuring medical staff of the emergency department show professionalism at all times, and model behaviours that alight with our values.
They will work closely with the Emergency Clinical Director to plan, develop, and implement coordinated clinical services, provide an appropriate teaching program and to ensure the supervision of clinical practice and training of undergraduates and postgraduates within the emergency department.
**THE HOSPITAL**
The state-of-the-art hospital with a total of 367 beds, 307 for public patients and 60 for private patients, the hospital is conveniently located within one complex, bringing health care closer to home. Opened in 2015, it is a bright, modern and spacious five-story building that offers a comprehensive range of services including emergency medicine, critical care, day chemotherapy, paediatric care, aged and stroke care, maternity and general surgery.

The Emergency Department is a 48 bedded department, and they have 75,000 presentations per year with an admission rate of approximately 30%.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES, AND DUTIES**
- Provide clinical management of emergency department patients.
- Maintain ethical and respectful behaviour to all staff and patients.
- Awareness of indigenous customs and community expectations in considering how best to look after, admit or discharge indigenous patients.
- Participate fully in the doctors' roster including after hours on call duties, as agreed with the Head of Department.
- Provide clinical services as seemed appropriate for a 24 hour emergency service, including audio-visual consultations and conferences with WA Country Health Services in the catchment zone.
- Maintain quality medical records in accordance with best practice and hospital protocols and policies.
- Provide accurate and appropriate information to inpatient teams including for those patients requiring transfer.
**EDUCATION**
- Supervise junior medical staff, including assessment of clinical performance and behaviour, documentation, discharge summaries, communication with patients and families, cultural awareness in regard to indigenous patients and communities, awareness of cultural and language diversity in the community.
- Participate in continuing professional development for consultants as well as training of junior medical staff, nursing and allied health staff and medical students. Leadership
- Demonstrate excellence in interpersonal skills when dealing with patients, families and other caregivers.
- Participate actively in clinical audit, clinical improvement and quality assurance activities in the department.
- Participate actively in disaster planning.
- Undertake clinical research where appropriate and agreed with the Head of Department.

**ESSENTIAL**
- A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of the hospital

- Specialist Medical Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship with Australian College of Emergency Medicine.
- Demonstrated ability to build a collaborative team in the delivery of high quality specialist medical care, including driving clinical quality initiatives.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including conflict resolution, negotiation and problem solving.
- Demonstrated interest and expertise in teaching both graduates and undergraduates.
**DESIRABLE**
- Experience in research activities.
**SPECIFIC CONDITIONS**
- Ongoing medicolegal insurance is required to be held by Visiting Medical Practitioners.
