The Client A manufacturing company located in Southwest Sydney specialising in steel frames is looking for a skilled Civil Engineering Draftsperson for preparing accurate technical drawings and detailed drafting documentation for prefabricated steel framing systems used in residential and building construction projects. The Role The role is a full time position with an annual salary set between $90,000 to $95,000 depending on experience plus superannuation. Responsibilities Prepare detailed 2D and 3D drafting drawings for steel wall frames, roof trusses, floor joists, and associated structural components using CAD drafting software Interpret architectural plans, engineering specifications, site measurements, and project requirements to convert design concepts into accurate shop drawings and production-ready documentation Produce layout drawings, fabrication details, connection details, section views, elevations, and assembly drawings for prefabricated steel framing systems Assist in the preparation and revision of structural drafting documentation to ensure compliance with Australian building codes, project specifications, and relevant steel framing standards Liaise with engineers, estimators, production staff, and installation teams to ensure drawings are practical, coordinated, and suitable for fabrication and site erection Review and amend drafting work to accommodate project changes, engineering updates, client variations, and site-specific construction requirements Prepare material schedules, cutting lists, and component references to support production planning and efficient prefabrication of steel frame systems Ensure drafting accuracy in relation to dimensions, tolerances, load paths, frame configurations, openings, bracing requirements, and connection placement Maintain drawing registers, revision histories, drafting records, and technical documentation for internal control and project traceability Support quality assurance by checking completed drawings against design intent, manufacturing capability, and installation requirements before issue for production Contribute to ongoing drafting improvements by identifying more efficient detailing methods, standardised drawing practices, and ways to support faster construction outcomes Assist with coordination of drafting outputs for projects requiring customised steel frame solutions, lightweight framing layouts, and environmentally efficient construction designs The Requirements Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Civil Construction Design or equivalent qualification. At least 2 years of experience as a Civil Engineering Draftsperson in a professional capacity At least 2 years' experience working with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks). At least 2 years' experience interpreting engineering plans, specifications, and survey data for construction documentation. At least 2 years' experience applying Australian Standards in civil drafting, reinforcement detailing, and concrete design. At least 2 years of experience preparing detailed CAD drawings and production documentation for structural steel, light gauge steel framing, or prefabricated building components At least 2 years of experience interpreting architectural drawings, engineering plans, and construction specifications for residential or commercial building projects Strong understanding of materials, fabrication methods, and mechanical tolerances. Knowledge of polyurethane foam manufacturing processes preferred. Ability to communicate in a clear and understandable manner
