Overview
Department of Health is seeking qualified applicants to appoint to Registrar vacancies within the Trauma Service, Royal Hobart Hospital. Learn new skills and build confidence caring for complex patients with multiple injuries. The Royal Hobart Hospital Trauma Service has positions available for trauma registrars in 2027. The Trauma Service cares for over 1000 injured patients each year (more than 300 major trauma presentations). As a trauma registrar you will be a key member of our admitting trauma unit, working alongside medical specialists, trauma case managers and experienced allied health practitioners.
Training
We can offer accredited training with CICM (medicine time – 6 months) and ACEM (including accreditation for TS4 trainees – 6 months). Trauma service time also satisfies RACS requirements for critical care exposure. Trainees from any specialty who want to learn how to provide comprehensive, roadside to rehabilitation care of trauma patients are welcome.
Roster
Your roster will include a combination of early, late and weekend shifts (1:3), with minimal rostered overtime. An average day would include a ward round, consults, tertiary surveys and trauma call attendance. You will also be an important member of regular multidisciplinary team meetings.
Protected Teaching and Development
The Trauma Service provides five hours of protected teaching time per week for medical staff. Every second week there is an afternoon of structured teaching and simulation. In alternate weeks, time is made available for self-directed learning, supported by a logbook and a wide catalogue of online modules and external resources. There will also be opportunities to engage in research and quality improvement activities, drawing on comprehensive data from the Tasmanian Trauma Registry and supported by our full-time clinical research coordinator.

Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is located in Hobart, Tasmania. The city offers fine dining, arts, accommodation and outdoor activities.
Duties
* The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital and provides after-hours emergency cover at the hospital. They are also responsible for attending any trauma callouts in the Emergency Department and responding to referrals and consults.
Essential Requirements
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

Salary
$138,978 - $194,675 per annum (pro rata)

Period of Employment
Fixed term, full time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro rata), commencing from 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028. Please note up to 24-month contract negotiable.
