Job Title: Aboriginal Youth Justice Specialist
This role is critical to the delivery of frontline services to young people across the Youth Justice system, requiring a high level of expertise and professionalism.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing front-line services to young people at the Batemans Bay Youth Justice Community Office, including detainees, youth justice conferencing clients, victims of crime, and court-mandated young people and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and maintain relationships with the Aboriginal community and key stakeholders to deliver services to young people, ensuring cultural sensitivity and understanding.
* Undertake case-management activities targeting need and risk, including case planning, organising and facilitating case conferences, and delivering offence-focused intervention programmes, taking into account individual circumstances and requirements.
* Collaborate with Youth Justice staff and external partners to connect young people to appropriate services and monitor progress, maintaining accurate records and data integrity in information systems.
* Work closely with courts, parole authorities, review panels and legal professionals, providing clear written communication for internal and external stakeholders, as required.
* Use structured screening and assessment tools to identify risks and determine appropriate interventions, including family and crisis support, taking into account individual needs and circumstances.
* Monitor outcome and case plans for compliance and progress, taking appropriate actions to ensure positive outcomes and improvement.
* Maintain accurate records and data integrity in information systems to support case management and quality assurance.
* Provide young people and families with tools, information and support to create positive change, promoting resilience and well-being.
* Contribute to the therapeutic nature of services, including behaviour management and reflective practice with staff, to promote a supportive and inclusive environment.
* Adapt to change and comply with departmental policies, procedures, standards and best-practice guidelines, demonstrating flexibility and professionalism.
Requirements:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications (diploma or higher) in social work, welfare, psychology, criminology, education or a related field, or equivalent experience.
* NSW Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act.
* Current driver's licence.
* Confirmation of Aboriginality.
