Overview
Court Liaison Officer (CNC2, OT4, SW4, Clinical Psychologist) – Grafton and Maclean Local Court, Justice Health - PFT. NSW Health is seeking a Federal-style court liaison to support Court diversion pathways for defendants who have or are suspected of having a mental illness, mental disorder or cognitive impairment, from the Criminal Justice System into the community.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Local Court Magistrate with the diversion of defendants into community treatment options where appropriate.
- Work within the Statewide Community and Court Liaison Service (SCCLS) to support mental health evaluations in Local Courts across NSW.
- Contribute to assessments, risk assessments and appropriate recommendations to magistrates for patient care and diversion decisions.
Essential Criteria
- Must hold a relevant postgraduate qualification in mental health.
- Must hold a current NSW Drivers Licence.
Qualifications by Profession
- Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2
Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia) and current full registration with AHPRA; five years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
- Occupational Therapist Level 4
Qualifications recognised for registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; general registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; five years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
- Social Worker Level 4
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in social work eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or equivalent; five years full time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
- Clinical Psychologist
Four-year psychology degree (or three-year degree with an honours year) or equivalent; general registration with AHPRA; five years full-time equivalent post-registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
Our Service and Team
Statewide Community and Court Liaison Service (SCCLS) delivers mental health support in Local Courts across NSW. The service conducts evaluations and provides recommendations to magistrates for diverting individuals from custody into suitable treatment options. The SCCLS is expanding to include 58 local courts in rural, regional and metro locations.
