Eligibility to Apply: To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments).
Other Conditions: WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake a criminal record screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. As well as undertaking a criminal record screening and integrity checking, you may also be required to undertake a working with children check (if required for the role) and a pre-employment health assessment. We may ask referees to comment on your integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour. Please note that adverse information does not necessarily disqualify an applicant but will be considered as part of the appointment process.
Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
Position Profile: The Medical Advisor provides strategic medical leadership and expert guidance to the Sustainable Development Unit within WA Health. This role is pivotal in integrating health considerations into climate change policy and sustainable development initiatives across the health system.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Medical Leadership & Strategic Support: Lead and support the integration of medical perspectives into sustainability planning and climate resilience strategies.
* Expert Advisory Role: Deliver authoritative medical advice on the health impacts of climate change, including mitigation and adaptation strategies, and contribute to the development of emissions reduction targets.
* Policy Implementation: Represent the system manager in the development and execution of climate-related health policies, ensuring alignment with state and national sustainability goals.
* Environmental Reporting: Oversee the medical aspects of environmental footprint reporting for WA Health, contributing to transparent and accountable sustainability practices.
This role requires a deep understanding of public health, environmental science, and health system operations, with a commitment to advancing sustainable healthcare delivery in Western Australia.
