Our services support adults and families through accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral pathways. The Housing Support Program in Darwin provides recovery-focused, person-centred support to people experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges and complex needs. This role is specifically designed for people who have personal lived or living experience of mental health challenges, substance use recovery and/or homelessness. Your insight, empathy and recovery journey are central to how you support participants. About the role As a Lived Experience Peer Worker, you will work alongside the Housing Support team to support participants engaged with the Supported Housing Program. You will use your own lived experience in a purposeful, safe and empowering way to provide hope, connection and practical support. This role complements, rather than duplicates, the work of case managers and requires the ability to share lived experience appropriately to support participant recovery. This casual position (approx. 30 hours per week) is based in Darwin, NT, reporting to the Housing Support Team Leader. Pay is in accordance with SCHADS Level 3.1. How you will make an impact
* Build supportive, recovery-focused relationships by drawing on your lived experience to offer hope and understanding.
* Help participants access community, health and mental health services that support their goals.
* Share lived experience insights with the team to strengthen recovery-oriented practice.
* Provide safe transport to appointments, activities and community supports.
* Welcome new participants and help them feel comfortable and informed during their induction.
* Contribute to activities and groups that build confidence, wellbeing and community connection.
* Support participants to develop self-advocacy skills and engage in their recovery.
* Maintain professional boundaries and uphold dignity, confidentiality and cultural safety.
* Participate in supervision, reflective practice and required training.
What you will bring
* Personal lived or living experience, either as a consumer or carer of someone, experiencing mental health challenges, substance use recovery and/or homelessness, with the ability to share this experience in a safe, purposeful and recovery-focused way.
* Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Community Services (or related field) or willingness to obtain.
* Understanding of recovery-oriented practice and trauma-informed approaches.
* Knowledge of the mental health, AOD or homelessness sectors in the Northern Territory.
* Ability to model hope, resilience and self-advocacy for participants.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build respectful, supportive relationships.
* Current NT driver’s licence.
