Senior Drill & Blast Engineer - Underground - FIFO to PNG
New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.
About the role
As a Senior Drill & Blast Engineer - Underground at Porgera Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient execution of drilling and blasting activities in the underground gold mine. This includes developing detailed stope design process and subsequent drill and blast designs maximizing recovery and managing dilution, while compiling to industry best practice safety procedures. Reconciliation of mined plan versus actuals, identifying improvement areas as well as cost saving initiatives. The successful individual will develop solid working relationships with planning, operations and geology teams to minimise disruptions and improve productivity. In addition, you will provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and operators, enhancing team capability and overall performance.
You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk. NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self‑starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mine’s successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.
About you
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in mining engineering or a related field, with a minimum of five years’ experience in underground drill and blast engineering, including practical long hole open stoping experience in large high output underground operations. Candidates should have at least three years’ experience in environments similar to the Porgera JV, proficiency in Deswik, Scheduler and Ventsim.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis either from Papua New Guinea, Australia/New Zealand with a 21/14 roster on a contract basis with a highly competitive remuneration package.
