Overview

Principal Practitioner – Strengthening and Restoring Families - Western at Uniting Vic.Tas. This role is based in Horsham, Ballarat or Werribee offices with potential hybrid working and regular travel across the service area. Closing on: Oct 6 2025.

Responsibilities

- Bring your expertise to support and develop our workforce in child and family services.
- Work with leaders to embed therapeutic, culturally safe care across programs.
- Help shape how care is delivered and make a difference at scale.
- Provide expert advice on complex cases, escalate risks, and support staff through reflective practice, case reviews, secondary consultations, and training.
- Contribute to the development of evidence-based practices that are culturally responsive and trauma-informed.
- Collaborate with the leadership team and Principal Practitioners across the region on methodologies and service innovations.
- Lead and influence practice quality and outcomes across programs such as Family Preservation and Reunification, Integrated Family Services, Foster Care and Kinship care.

Role specifics

- Reports to a divisional Senior Manager and works alongside the regional Principal Practitioners.
- Hybrid working options, depending on location.
- Regular travel across the service area.

Your skills and experience

- Significant experience supporting children and young people affected by complex trauma using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
- Deep knowledge across children, youth and family services from early intervention through to foster and kinship care.
- Experience coaching and developing staff, leading reflective practice, facilitating training, and providing case consultations.
- Ability to draw insights from practice data, identify trends, and recommend improvements at individual, team and system levels.
- Collaborative, solutions-focused approach across teams and disciplines to guide high-quality decisions.
- Strong understanding of Family Services, Family Preservation and Reunification, Care & Placement, Family Violence, Youth and Homelessness service streams.
