About The Role

The Umpiring Coordinator – Northwest role is responsible for delivering on the umpiring strategy in northern Tasmania, taking on the key duties relating to recruitment and administration for umpiring.

AFL Tasmania has a goal of recruiting 50% more umpires by 2028 and the Umpiring Coordinator - North role will play a key role in delivering recruitment programs against growth targets in northwest Tasmania.

The role will work closely with all umpiring groups in the region (including the NWUA) in building the base of umpiring in northwest Tasmania and ensuring a clear high performance umpiring pathway and an excellent level of umpire coaching in-region. The role is based in northwestern Tasmania and is focused on delivering recruitment programs and in supporting the key administration duties in the operations of umpiring for the northwest region.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Deliver on AFL Tasmania's umpiring strategy in northwest Tasmania – with a focus on growing umpiring to new heights and on ensuring there is a clear umpiring pathway for aspirational umpires in TasmaniaEnsure the northwest region engages with the umpire development pathway through providing and supporting development opportunities for talented umpiresDeliver Women & Girls Action plan initiatives in the northwest regionAppointing and supporting umpire coaches across all three disciplinesDeliver recruitment activities in the pre-season and early season, including come and try days, school-based activities, playing club-based activities – other outreach social eventsWork closely with local associations on key umpiring matters to ensure culture of continuous improvement of umpiringCoordinate the appointment and payment of umpires in-seasonProviding specific dedicated support for the retention of umpires within the local market – reward and recognition initiativesDelivering other operational requirements (not limited to apparel, equipment management & ground bookings) in collaboration with AFL Tasmania staff and umpiring bodies.Support and contribute to key projects within and outside of core role which contribute to the success of the broader team

Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn and contribute a variety of innovative ideas.Engaging interpersonal skills with the willingness to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes.Ability to work outside core business hours, inclusive of regional travel as required.Ability to work effectively unsupervised whilst a member of a team.A track record of managing multiple tasks and prioritising projects to ensure timely deliveryProficient problem-solving skillsProficiency in use of computers, document presentation and of Microsoft applications

Mandatory

Experience in working with children and young peopleWell-developed verbal and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skillsTasmanian Driver's LicenseCurrent Working with Vulnerable Children Check

Desirable

Experience volunteering or working with volunteersSound knowledge of AFL or other relevant sporting environmentStrong computer literacy to support AFL program requirements in the regionQualifications Sports Coaching / Management, Recreation, Education or equivalent depth of experience
