About the Role
The Cultural Family Liaison Officer will strengthen support for regional Grandcarer families and the wellbeing of children and young people (0–18 years) through capacity-building, community engagement, and partnership development. You will work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and service partners to connect, support and empower Grandcarers engaged with the Wanslea Grandcare Program.
Your role includes facilitating workshops, support groups and forums, providing phone-based support, developing community-informed resources, and fostering strong relationships that reduce isolation and strengthen networks across regional areas. You will collaborate with stakeholders to co-design and deliver initiatives tailored to the needs of Grandcarer families.
About you
You bring experience and skills working with families and community services, and you're committed to supporting the wellbeing of children, young people and Grandcarers. You may have a tertiary qualification (or equivalent community work experience) and a strong understanding of child development, family dynamics and positive parenting. You have experience working with Aboriginal families and strong connections to the Aboriginal community.
You're confident in offering support to families in challenging situations, and you work in a way that builds trust, respect and safety. You communicate clearly, both in writing and in person and you can organise your work, juggle priorities and meet deadlines.
You enjoy working with others, building strong relationships with community, stakeholders and partners, and collaborating as part of a team. You understand the importance of culturally safe practice and the National Child Safe Principles, and you're familiar with basic administrative systems and tools.
This position has a genuine occupational requirement under section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 that the successful candidate must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
