About Us

Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital is dedicated to the rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation of Australia's native wildlife. As a non-profit, fully equipped wildlife hospital, we provide expert veterinary care to injured and ill native species, helping them recover and return to the wild.

We recently acquired a bricks-and-mortar hospital in the beautiful coastal town of Lennox Head, and we are proud to also operate Australia's first fully registered mobile wildlife hospital, which can be deployed in natural disasters and conservation projects.

We are now seeking an experienced Lead Veterinary Nurse to join our passionate team. This is your chance to combine leadership, clinical excellence, and a love of wildlife in a role that makes a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

* Supervise and mentor veterinary nurses, volunteers, and support staff.
* Coordinate day-to-day hospital operations, including stock control and workflow.
* Plan and deliver training programs for nursing staff and volunteers.
* Provide high-quality nursing care to a diverse range of Australian wildlife.
* Maintain accurate patient records and uphold best-practice protocols.
* Assist veterinarians during medical and surgical procedures.

What We're Looking For

Essential Criteria:

* Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.
* Minimum of 3 years' experience in veterinary nursing, with at least 1 year in wildlife care.
* Confident in handling, treating, and rehabilitating Australian native species.
* Strong skills in surgical nursing, emergency care, and patient monitoring.
* Experience in team leadership and staff mentoring.
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Desirable:

* Accreditation as a Veterinary Nurse (AVN) through the VNCA.
* Additional training or experience in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

Why Join Us?

* Work with a passionate, expert team dedicated to wildlife conservation.
* Diverse, rewarding cases—no two days are the same
* Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to support your well-being.
* Ongoing professional development and career growth opportunities.
* Make a real difference in the lives of Australia's native animals.
