**About us**
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the criminal justice system. The two Youth Justice Custodial Precincts in Victoria are managed by the department. Parkville Youth Justice Precinct is located in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Parkville, and Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct is located approximately 100 kilometres north of Melbourne.
The Infrastructure Projects and Security Unit manages and provides oversight on all major infrastructure projects, maintenance and security requirements at the Youth Justice Precincts. This critical team manage and oversee the safety and security of our staff and young people, ensuring a safe environment and enabling service delivery staff to focus on providing services to young people.
**What does a Maintenance Officer do?**
As the Maintenance Officer, you will work as part of a team to ensure the maintenance of the Precinct's buildings to a high-quality standard.
You will use your problem resolution skills to undertake works such as carpentry repairs, glazing, manufacturing fittings, repairing tools and equipment, and ensuring all works comply with the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and other regulations and standards as required.
You will be based at the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct though regional travel to the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct may be required.
**What skills should a Maintenance Officer have?**
- Experience in building inspecting, problem resolution and cost estimation for general building and construction works within commercial parameters
- experience in building or maintenance repairs for general building and construction within a commercial or custodial environment
- completion of an approved trades apprenticeship issued by the Industrial Training Commission of Victoria or equivalent in a recognised trade(s)
- a full and current driver's licence.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
