These positions are part of a research initiative in non-destructive evaluation and structural health monitoring, offering the opportunity to work at the forefront of engineering innovation.Key Opportunities– PhD Project 1: Non-contact Ultrasonic Techniques for Damage Detection in Complex StructuresStudy ultrasonic wave behavior on challenging surfaces.Integrate modeling, simulation, and experimental validation.Develop advanced signal processing algorithms for early-stage damage detection.Duration: 3 years; Stipend: $35,921/year (2025 rate, indexed).– PhD Project 2: Development of an Advanced Non-contact Ultrasonic Inspection SystemDesign and implement a non-contact inspection system for demanding environments.Focus on signal generation/detection, system control, and performance validation.Duration: 3.5 years; Stipend: $35,300/year (2025 rate, indexed).Requirements– Open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and international applicants.– Honours-level (First Class) or Master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.– Skills in analytical/numerical modeling, experimental ultrasound testing, and data analytics are advantageous.Research EnvironmentSuccessful candidates will join collaborative teams within the School of Architecture & Civil Engineering and the School of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering.
