Your Role as a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO)
In this role you will provide specialist paediatric medical care as an on‐call independent practitioner and sole trader, working in partnership with Children's Health Queensland Paediatric Palliative Care Service (PPCS), the Nurse Practitioner Lead, and the multidisciplinary team.
You will deliver safe, timely, and family‐centred medical assessment and care, supporting children and families across respite, symptom management, and end‐of‐life care. The role contributes to coordinated admissions and discharges, referral management (including urgent cases), and participation in the on‐call roster to ensure continuity of care.
Please note that for this position you will be required to work flexibly as an on‐call practitioner.
Key responsibilities
* Deliver specialist paediatric palliative care services in your capacity as an independent VMO
* Collaborate with PPCS and the multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated, family‐centred care
* Participate in the Hummingbird House on‐call roster as required
* Support admission, discharge, and referral processes, including urgent and end‐of‐life care
* Engage children and families with compassion, supporting shared decision‐making and informed consent
* Attend MDT and relevant external meetings as practicable
* Contribute to clinical governance, including risk review and quality improvement activities
* Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation

What We're Looking For
* Advanced paediatric resuscitation skills
* Able to work independently with sound clinical judgement
* Strong, compassionate communication skills with families and teams
* Effective teamwork and collaboration skills
* Bachelor Degree of Medicine
* Current AHPRA registration as a Specialist Paediatrician, Paediatric Palliative Care Specialist, or Palliative Care Specialist (or working towards paediatric palliative care qualifications)
A Valuable Addition, Yet Not a Must‐Have!
* Knowledge of ACSQHC National Health Care Standards
* Proof of COVID‐19 vaccination status (or as required by legislation and WMQ policy)
* Relevant probity checks required by legislation and WMQ Limited policy.
* Current Driver's Licence and willingness to travel for work
* NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
