The Fleet, Radio, and Equipment Department at St John WA plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of the organization's statewide vehicle fleet. Comprising a dedicated team of 30 skilled professionals, the department is responsible for managing over 1,000 ambulances and transport vehicles across Western Australia.
Their responsibilities include the full fit-out of vehicles with essential medical and emergency equipment, the installation and maintenance of advanced radio communication systems to support real‐time coordination, and the integration of other vital technologies. The team also oversees routine servicing, mechanical repairs, and preventative maintenance to ensure vehicles & medical equipment remain reliable and compliant with safety standard.
About the Role
As a Radio Installer with St John WA you will join a proactive and self‐motivating team in a modern workshop based in Belmont and assist with the installation and deinstallation of communications equipment used within the St John Ambulance Fleet.
What You'll Do
* Action installation and deinstallation jobs as per line manager requirements
* Follow vehicle delivery schedule to ensure no disruptions to operational workflows
* Meet KPIs associated with installation and deinstallation of all communication and data equipment
* Assist career ambulance employees and volunteers with system and radio requirements
* Liaise with Metropolitan and Country St John Staff and Volunteers to arrange vehicle installation requirements and coordinate installation times
* Update fleet management system as required
* Maintain the required stock levels of equipment and consumables used in the vehicle installation process
What You'll Need
* Understanding of and experience with radio frequency technologies and communications equipment
* Ability to work autonomously
* Intermediate level of competency in Microsoft Office programs
* Mechanically competent
* Familiar with vehicle 12 Volt electrical systems
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to professionally communicate with different stakeholders
* Knowledge of 3G, 4G, WIFI and satellite forms of communication (desirable)
* Experience with the installation of emergency lights and sirens (desirable)
