The Transmission Delivery Specialist plays a vital role in deploying, upgrading, and managing the lifecycle of Optus' transmission network infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on DWDM optical systems.
Operating across a wide range of site types, from exchanges and data centres to mobile sites and customer premises, the specialist ensures high-performance, scalable, and resilient network transport.
This role demands deep technical expertise, proactive problem-solving, and collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to support continuous network evolution and maintain operational standards.
In addition to commissioning and integrating transmission platforms, the specialist mentors team members and suppliers, delivers training, and ensures quality and compliance in deployment activities.
They support onboarding of new technologies, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and respond to disaster recovery scenarios and complex network transitions.
Their work underpins the delivery of reliable telecommunications services and contributes to Optus' strategic goals through expert guidance, technical leadership, and cross-functional coordination.
Your day to day will consist of Deliver long-haul, metro, and access DWDM systems across diverse national sites, ensuring timely completion and full functionality.
Provide expert fault response and resolution for DWDM systems, including disaster recovery and complex network transitions.
Work cross-functionally with internal teams, vendors, and project managers to deliver high-profile optical network solutions aligned with SLAs.
Ensure alignment to WHS regulations, site access policies, and ISO standards; coordinate contractor compliance and respond effectively to crisis events.
Drive lean initiatives, manage resource forecasting, and maintain up-to-date technical credentials to support evolving technologies.
What makes you perfect for the role?
Relevant professional qualifications with extensive hands on experience in telecommunications or network engineering with strong exposure to optical network deployment.
Advanced knowledge of DWDM, ROADM, OTN, coherent optics, fiber infrastructure, and transport protocols, plus skilled in using optical test equipment and diagnosing complex faults.
Proven ability to manage multi-vendor, multi-site deployments, upgrades, and migrations; experienced in exchanges, data centres, and facility systems including power and mobile technologies.
Solid understanding of WHS, ISO standards, regulatory and environmental management; valid first aid certification and Australian driver's licence.
Superb communication, analytical thinking, customer focus, and accountability; capable of working under pressure and adapting to changing needs.
Competent in IT/MS Office; committed to ongoing technical development, process improvement, and maintaining up-to-date training credentials.
