Overview
The Australian Airports Association (AAA) is the national voice that represents the interests of more than 340 airports and aerodromes across Australia, from local community landing strips to major international gateway airports. AAA facilitates cooperation among airport members and partners in Australian aviation, contributing to a safe, secure, competitive and environmentally sustainable air transport system for the benefit of Australians and visitors. AAA advocates for appropriate national policy relating to airport activities to ensure regular transport for passengers and freight, and ongoing industry advancement. The AAA has more than 150 corporate members representing aviation stakeholders and organisations that provide goods and services to the airport sector.
This role is ideal for a designer with 1–3 years of qualified experience (agency, in-house or freelance), looking to grow their portfolio and take on a variety of creative projects across digital and print.
The Visual Content & Design Coordinator is a hands-on position that supports significant AAA initiatives across the year, including major industry events, government submissions and member engagement activities. This role is a parental leave cover and is initially for 9 months, with the possibility of extension. It sits within the "Engaged Members" pillar of the AAA's Strategic Plan and reports to the Director – Member Engagement. The role is responsible for the development of digital design for marketing assets, social media tiles, event collateral and policy publications for AAA.
While autonomy is required, a collaborative approach with the Policy and Advocacy, Member Engagement and Corporate Services teams is needed to ensure alignment with the AAA's strategic objectives.
The role will involve the following day-to-day areas of work (non-exhaustive):
Responsibilities
Graphic/ Digital Design for events and communications collateral, including digital outputs and printed materials (posters, flyers, email signatures, infographics, event signage, etc.).
Social media management in collaboration with the Head of Strategic Communications and Manager of Digital Communications: creating and scheduling content, engaging with posts, and reporting on analytics.
EDMs and digital newsletters: manage the weekly newsletter – Airport Alert – including editorial and graphic design, and regular e-newsletters to AAA Members.
Website: assist in the management and maintenance of the AAA website, including updating copy, content creation, digital design and reporting of website analytics.
Work with autonomy and creativity to enhance and effectively communicate the work of the AAA to members and stakeholders through digital design outputs.
Provide event management support as a backup to the member engagement/communications teams as required.
Key Responsibilities
Create design content for AAA's digital channels including social media, marketing EDMs, weekly newsletter, website, and event collateral (signage, programs, lanyards, web images, etc.).
Collaborate with AAA staff and executives to produce effective design and marketing outputs.
Monitor and contribute to AAA's social media and digital channels with support from the Manager of Digital Communications and Director – Member Engagement.
Develop collateral for marketing plans and reporting processes for major AAA events to drive attendance and promote sponsorship opportunities.
Provide regular social media summaries to the Director and executive team.
Provide event management support as needed to the member engagement/communications teams.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements
Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign.
Experience in end-to-end digital/graphic design for various collateral and digital outputs.
Experience working with vendors to deliver hard copy collateral (printers, etc.).
Solid attention to detail and excellent organisational skills, including balancing and managing competing priorities.
A positive, collaborative attitude with appreciation for shared organisational goals.
Desirable Skills (not essential)
Experience with WordPress, MailChimp or HubSpot.
Exposure to social media marketing and analytics (Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn, etc.).
Experience supporting events or managing event communications.
Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills.
Relevant degree or diploma in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications or similar.
