Who We’re Looking For

We’re not looking for someone to fill a gap for 6 to 12 months.

This isn’t a stopgap job — it’s the start of a rewarding career, and our goal is to help you grow into your full potential.

The right person for this role:

Plays as part of one team.

You leave your ego at the door, respect your teammates, and know the best outcomes happen when we work together safely and efficiently.

Does it right, the first time.

You follow proven systems and processes — because in this work, shortcuts can put lives at risk.

Accuracy and integrity matter.

Thinks ahead.

You see a few steps beyond where you are, plan what’s needed, and stay focused on delivering safe, high-quality work.

Reliable under pressure.

You show up on time, follow through on what you say you’ll do, and maintain standards — because our clients and teammates rely on it.

Accountable with the right attitude.

Punctual, safety-first, reliable, and eager to learn.

Not just following instructions, but actively listening, applying feedback, and building confidence through practice.

Communicates clearly.

You don’t need to be polished on day one — but you do need to be clear, approachable, and willing to develop into someone who can confidently deal with clients and work well with others.

If you’re only looking for “just another job,” this isn’t for you.

But if you want to be trained, developed, and supported to become a skilled professional, this is your pathway.

With the help of our internal training program, Geoscope University, you’ll progress through structured online and practical training, step up into a junior technician role, and prepare for your Certloc Certified Locator Assessment.

From there, the path is wide open: continuous professional development, leadership opportunities, and the chance to mentor the next wave of trainees.

What We Offer

Full Training from Day One

No experience required — we’ll teach you everything.

Training in both formal and in-house settings

Geoscope University + on-the-job mentoring.

Clear pathway to becoming a certified professional.

Certifications & Credentials That Stick

Progression to Certloc Certified Locator status (a recognised industry standard).

Skills that make you employable for life, not just at Geoscope.

Opportunity to mentor future trainees and become a leader with future company expansion opportunities.

Financial Stability & Growth

Earn while you learn — full-time, stable role.

Pay progression as you move through training and certification.

Overtime and allowances (if applicable).

Be Part of a Team That Has Your Back

Work with people who leave their egos at the door.

Team-first environment where safety, respect, and support come first.

Meaningful Work

Every job you do keeps communities protected by protecting underground utilities.

Your work prevents accidents, saves lives, and supports critical infrastructure.

Tools & Tech

Work with cutting-edge locating equipment (GPR, EMF locators).

Gain hands-on technical experience.

Join Sydney’s most trusted utility investigation company, where your work and reputation carry real weight.

What You’ll Do

This isn’t a desk job.

It’s hands-on, outdoors, and no two days are the same.

You’ll be working on construction sites, roads, parks, beaches, schools and private properties — sometimes in the sun, sometimes in the rain.

If that excites you, keep reading.

If you only want air-conditioning and an office chair, this probably isn’t for you.

As a trainee, your day-to-day will include:

Supporting certified technicians and senior team members on live job sites, to deliver safe, accurate, and efficient utility locating services across Sydney.

Setting up and handling advanced locating equipment like electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating radar, and create digital reports.

Spray marking and documenting utilities so builders and contractors know exactly where it’s safe to dig.

Taking site photos, keeping notes, and updating job records — accuracy is everything in this role.

Wearing full PPE and following safety-first practices to keep yourself, your teammates, and the public safe.

Travelling between sites — every day is different, and you’ll see a wide range of projects across Sydney.

On the training side, you’ll also be expected to:

Provide daily and weekly updates on your progress and check off training targets.

Keep a training diary — with written notes, photos, and videos — to document your day-to-day learning.

Record and refine processes for revision and deeper understanding.

Complete weekly training assessments through Geoscope University, ensuring you stay on track with your development.

Commit fully to the program for the period of training, showing consistency, motivation, and a drive to grow.

This role is not for someone looking to coast or just “fill a gap.” It’s for someone motivated to work hard, keep improving, and build a rewarding future in an industry that protects lives and keeps projects safe.

Your Training Path

We’ll show you the A–Z of utility locating — everything from the fundamentals of reading plans to mastering advanced equipment in the field like no other company does it in the world.

You’ll learn directly from seasoned professionals who deliver five-star, blue-ribbon service every day.

Our training isn’t just intense — it’s thorough, practical, and supportive, with continuous feedback so you always know where you stand.

Through a mix of online modules, hands-on fieldwork, and ongoing assessments, you’ll move step by step:

First learning and assisting.

Then taking on parts of the process yourself.

Finally, once you’ve gained the skills and knowledge to progress to your final assessment, you’ll become Geoscope Certified.

That means you’ve successfully passed all the internal skills benchmarks — and from there, you’ll move on to the nationally recognised Certloc Certification, cementing your place as a qualified professional in the industry.

Week by week, you’ll knock off milestones, build confidence, and develop skills that stay with you for life.

What You’ll Need

This is an entry-level role — no prior experience is required.

What matters most is your attitude, willingness to learn, and most of all commitment.

This role isn’t for everyone, but to succeed here, you must:

Be ready to work outdoors all day, in all weather conditions (rain, heat, cold).

Stay physically active — the job requires walking, bending, lifting, and being on your feet for long hours.

Bring a safety-first mindset — cutting corners is not an option when lives and projects are on the line.

Show up consistently — punctual, reliable, and committed to following through on tasks.

Work as part of a team — respect your teammates, communicate openly, and leave ego at the door.

Commit to training and growth — keeping a diary, completing weekly assessments, and sticking with the program.

Have the right attitude — willing to learn, open to feedback, and motivated to turn this into a long-term career.

Have a valid driver’s licence (so you can travel to job sites).

Be legally entitled to work in Australia.

Willing to commit to a training agreement after successful onboarding, to ensure you and the company both benefit from the investment in your development.

If you’re looking for a short-term gig, or if working outdoors and pushing yourself doesn’t appeal to you — this won’t be the right fit.

Why Now?

You’ve already had a taste of the working world.

Maybe you’ve tried a couple of jobs where the boss didn’t set the bar high, or the team around you didn’t take pride in their work.

Those experiences taught you something important: the difference between just having a job and being part of a real opportunity.

This role is your chance to change that trajectory.

Instead of bouncing between short-term gigs, you’ll step into a pathway that sets you up for long-term success — personally, professionally, and financially.
