About Ampilatwatja Health Centre
Ampilatwatja Health Centre (AHC) is a community-controlled Aboriginal health service located approximately 350km northeast of Alice Springs. Serving over 650 residents across Ampilatwatja and three nearby outstations, AHC delivers holistic, culturally safe care under the governance of local Traditional Owners.
Our multidisciplinary team includes General Practitioners, Remote Area Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and support staff, all working together to strengthen community wellbeing and improve health outcomes.
About the Role
We are seeking Remote Area Nurses to join our multidisciplinary team in multiple permanent positions based in Ampilatwatja, NT. Clinic hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm (37.5 hours per week), with participation in a rotating after-hours on-call roster.
Based primarily in the community clinic, you will also provide regular outreach services to three nearby outstations (approximately 40km away), along with occasional school and home visits. These roles offer a broad scope of practice and a high level of clinical responsibility across:
* Primary health care
* Emergency response
* Chronic disease management
* Men's health outreach and health promotion
You will have genuine autonomy and the opportunity to shape care delivery and health outcomes at both clinic and community level.
New to remote nursing?
We encourage experienced Emergency Department nurses (minimum five years' experience) to consider a transition into remote nursing. Upskilling and support will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality primary care, emergency care, and chronic disease management
* Lead and contribute to men's health initiatives, preventative care, and health promotion activities
* Provide outreach services to remote outstations
* Respond to after-hours calls while on roster, including urgent assessments and emergency care
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation and infection control standards
* Work collaboratively with Aboriginal Health Practitioners, GPs, and allied health professionals
* Contribute to a culturally safe, inclusive, and respectful model of care
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Current, unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
* A minimum of five years' post-graduate nursing experience
* Preferably 12 months' experience in a busy metropolitan or regional Emergency Department
* Strong understanding of Aboriginal health, chronic disease management, and culturally safe care
* Confidence working independently with an extended scope of practice
* Willingness to support and engage in men's health programs and community wellbeing initiatives

* Current Australian manual driver's licence and confidence driving a 4WD on unsealed roads
* Current Ochre Card (NT Working with Children Check)
* Advanced Life Support (ALS)
* Immunisation certification (AGV)
* IV competency
Highly Regarded
* Australasian Triage Scale (ATS) competency
* iStat and QAAMS pharmacotherapy
* Paediatric Emergency Care
* Remote Emergency Care (REC) and Maternity Emergency Care (MEC)
* Experience using Communicare or a similar EMR system
