The role is a seasoned scoops-oriented reporter who will cover equity and debt transactions involving large commercial properties in Australia. Our newsletters, Real Estate Alert and Commercial Mortgage Alert, have been covering the sector for 30-plus years. Our reporting teams are committed to telling readers what they are not supposed to know about the latest on deals and dealmakers in the commercial real estate equity and debt markets.
Responsibilities
* Report scoops about listings, deals under contract, closings, financings, development projects and other relevant news.
* Write sophisticated analysis pieces about market trends ahead of the competition.
* Leverage relationships among brokers, developers and other market pros to establish yourself as the top producer of exclusive news in the institutional-investor space.
* Work collaboratively with other senior journalists on the team to beat the competition in quantity and quality of exclusive CRE news and ensure smooth publication of daily content.
* Work collaboratively with Green Street News journalists across geographies on articles about international deals, capital flows and market trends.
* Serve as mentor to more junior journalists on the team.
Requirements
* 5+ years of reporting experience with hard-news clips from a daily newspaper, online information service or weekly publication.
* A “nose for news” and a track record of developing hard-to-access sources on competitive beats. Business-news experience is strongly preferred, but not required.
* Knowledge of the CMBS market, finance or banking industries is a plus.
