## Work with the most ambitious teams.Yoursinglehubtoexploreopportunitiesatthebesttechnologycompanies,backedbyBlackbird.## Deputy Head of Mechanical Engineering - Future ProgramsGilmour Space Technologies PurposeThe Deputy Head of Mechanical Engineering (Future Program) plays a critical leadership role in the development and delivery of the mechanical systems for Gilmour Space Technologies' launch vehicle initiatives. This role supports the Head of Mechanical Engineering in strategic planning, technical oversight, and team leadership, ensuring mechanical subsystems meet program objectives for performance, reliability, schedule, and cost.The Deputy Head will provide direct technical leadership across multiple disciplines, including mechanisms, structures, and appendages, and act as a key liaison between engineering, program management, manufacturing, and mission operations. ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities listed are not exhaustive; they represent examples of the work performed by this position. You will be required to perform other duties within your skills and abilities.· Support the Head of Mechanical Engineering in leading future mechanical projects, assisting in technical direction, resource management, and team leadership.· Support the Head of Mechanical Engineering and Launch Vehicle Program through mechanical system architecture trade studies, system integration activities, and design reviews.· Assist in the review of mechanical designs, interfaces, and predicted environmental considerations in the design of launch programs.· Develop mechanical and structural systems designs and verify they meet customer and Gilmour requirements for Gilmour rocket vehicles.· Assist in the development and review of test plans for mechanical designs through development, qualification, and acceptance testing· Contribute to managing, developing, and supporting a multidisciplinary mechanical engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.· Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and analysis techniques and contribute to long-term technology roadmaps.· Support continuous improvement activities internal to the mechanical team in partnership with the broader company.· Represent the mechanical department as required in internal and external technical forums, customer meetings, and cross-functional working groups.· Act as a delegate to the Head of Mechanical Engineering as required.· Other duties as requested by Management Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.· 8 + years of experience in a professional mechanical engineering setting.(excluding internships)· NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred.· Highly developed CAD skills developed through the design of complex systems. (NX preferred, CATIA, Solidworks etc.)· Highly developed analysis skills with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics simulation package. (ANSYS preferred or NASTRAN, ABAQUS, etc.)Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience· Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team of engineers.· Demonstrated experience in developing mechanical systems from business requirements to delivered product.· Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together.· Experience with Matlab, C++, Python and other modelling and analysis tools.· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications Teamwork / Leadership / Interpersonal· Demonstrated leadership skills, having the ability to lead cross-functional groups in a unified direction.· Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. Anticipates and responds to the needs of others.· Proven resource and project management capabilities to balance work demands and deliver outcomes.· Self-motivated with a high level of attention to detail, with a proven history of delivering large projects.· Demonstrated commitment to health and safety, quality assurance, continuous improvement, and environmental management.
