The Organisation
Alpha HPA is a publicly listed, Australian-based company that has commercialised the world's first solvent extraction (SX) purification technique applied to aluminium. This breakthrough process produces a growing range of ultra-high purity aluminium materials – oxides, hydroxides and nitrates – used across advanced industries such as LED lighting, synthetic sapphire, semiconductors and lithium-ion batteries.
Alpha HPA's materials deliver market-leading purity levels with a significantly lower carbon profile. The Stage One HPA First Project in Gladstone is already in production – the first commercial application of Alpha HPA's proprietary SX process, producing >99.99% pure aluminium products.
Construction of the large-scale commercial facility (Stage Two HPA First Project) is underway, with full-scale production targeted for mid-2027. Once operational, Alpha HPA will produce 10,000 tonnes of HPA equivalent per year, right here in Gladstone.
The Opportunity
Alpha HPA is seeking a Site Mechanical Engineer to join its Gladstone team. This role offers a rare opportunity to contribute across both construction and operations phases of a major greenfield project.
During construction, you'll report to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager, supporting commissioning and operational readiness for Stage Two of the HPA First Project. Once the plant becomes operational, you'll transition into the maintenance engineering team, focused on reliability and performance of critical plant assets.
Key responsibilities include:
* Reviewing vendor manuals and developing maintenance strategies for CMMS integration
* Compiling asset management plans and building the CMMS for Stage 2 operations
* Supporting asset improvement initiatives using The Asset Guardian (TAG) CMMS
* Collaborating with maintenance technicians to troubleshoot, upgrade and improve equipment
* Overseeing changes to maintenance strategies and ensuring compliance with Alpha HPA standards
* Applying reliability tools (OEE, FMECA, RCM) to enhance plant performance
* Providing technical support to production teams and assisting with shutdown planning.
* Ensuring safety, risk and environmental programs are strictly adhered to
About You
You'll bring:
* Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering (essential)
* Minimum 5–10 years' experience in maintenance engineering within complex industrial environments such as minerals processing, petrochemical or chemical manufacturing
* Experience with both rotating and static equipment, including pressure systems, kilns, furnaces and pumps
* Prior exposure to greenfield construction or large brownfield expansion projects
* Well-developed Root Cause Analysis (5-Why) problem-solving and decision-making skills
* Strong communication and collaboration skills to promote a culture of shared success and improvement
* Sound knowledge of maintenance cost analysis and reliability tools (OEE, FMECA, RCM)
* Experience with CMMS systems such as The Asset Guardian (TAG) highly regarded
