Our General Surgical and Medical Ward consists of 32 beds, including 4 dedicated cardiac beds. We oversee a diverse range of post-operative patients, including those recovering from general surgery, orthopedics, urology, neurology, plastic surgery and ENT. We also provide specialised care for pediatric patients as young as 2 years old. Additionally, we manage elective medical admissions.The ward operates on a rotating roster, requiring all staff to work morning (AM), afternoon (PM), and night (ND) shifts.Key Responsibilities:Provide high-quality nursing care for patients in recovery from a variety of surgical and medical conditions, including general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urology, neurology, and plastic surgery.Oversee the care of cardiac patients at a time, utilising telemetry to monitor heart rhythms, blood pressure, and other vital signs.Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments as per physician orders and protocols.Manage post-operative recovery for patients from a range of specialties, ensuring timely assessments and interventions.Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, cardiologists, and specialists, to ensure the best possible outcomes for all patients.Monitor and manage cardiac telemetry, ensuring early detection of any changes in cardiac rhythm or condition.Educate patients and families on post-operative care, including wound care, medication management, and lifestyle changes.Perform patient assessments, including vital signs, wound monitoring, and neurological evaluations, and document findings accurately.Respond promptly to changes in patient conditions, particularly in emergency situations, and provide immediate care as needed.Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort at all times.ABOUT YOU:As an outstanding clinician, you are dedicated to delivering patient-centred care right from admission throughout the patient journey with St Vincent's Health Australia.Required Skills and Qualifications:Current AHPRA registration.Previous experience in caring for surgical and medical patients, particularly in the orthopedic, urology, neurology, plastic surgery, ENT, and general surgery fields, as well as pediatric nursing.Ability to administer and manage post-operative care in a multi-disciplinary environment.Strong critical thinking skills to assess and respond to changes in patient conditions.Ability to manage multiple patients effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate patients and work collaboratively with the healthcare team.ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications are desired.Competency in managing post-operative recovery and wound care.Ability to work rotating shifts, including morning (AM), afternoon (PM), and night (ND) shifts.ABOUT ST VINCENTS PRIVATE HOSPITAL MELBOURNE:Our experienced team of clinical professionals, caregivers, and support staff are equipped to provide the highest level of therapeutic, medical, and surgical services.
