Overview

For the last 35 years, our client has been providing specialized scheduled maintenance and inspection services of Fire Fighting Equipment to a wide range of business types and industry sectors in the Perth Metro and Regional Western Australia.

Due to our client experiencing an increase in business activities, they are seeking to appoint an additional Fire Fighting Equipment Technician to join their team based in Kardinya.

The Role

Due to State Government regulations, all commercial buildings in WA are required to equip their premises with fire fighting equipment such as fire extinguishers, fire fighting hose reels, fire blankets and smoke alarms. Part of the regulation is for the fire fighting equipment to be regularly inspected and maintained to ensure the equipment is functional and operational in case of a fire.

Our client provides the fire fighting equipment as well as inspection and maintenance services in order for their clients to comply to the government regulations.

The fire fighting equipment our client sells and inspects includes;

Fire Alarm and Fire Detection Systems

Automatic Sprinkler Systems

As a Fire Fighting Equipment Technician, you will initially be focusing on the following equipment;

Site Equipment Routine Inspection

Site Equipment Based Maintenance

Site Equipment Based Testing

Fire Extinguisher Replacement / Exchange

Tagging or Updating Asset Register of Equipment

Completing Site Reports

Following In-House Work Procedures

Completing Documentation – such as Job Sheets & Equipment Exchange

Workshop - Extinguisher Refilling

Once the Fire Fighting Equipment Technician is trained in the above responsibilities they will be working autonomously where every morning they will collect their daily job sheets and schedule where a company van or ute is provided.

Planning your day is a vital part of the role where you will need to know the Perth Metro area very well in order to plan your daily site visits, ensuring that you plan your routes to avoid wasting time on the road.

You will also be required to review in detail your job sheets as there could be special instructions on site entry, designated times frames the client would like the inspections to be carried out through to jobs that require extinguisher replacements where you will need to secure the correct number, size and types of extinguishers.

Site visits can vary from 1 to 15+ per day, depending on the size and location of the clients. There are some jobs such as Hospitals, Shopping Centers or large Office Facilities that can take 1 to 2 days to complete due to the size of the facility and a large number of equipment that needs to be checked. Other sites such as Cafes or small offices may only take 30 minutes.

Having very good personal grooming and presentation is mandatory as you will be entering a large variety of sites across corporate, health care, restaurants and workshops where clients work activities are been conducted. You will be required to communicate with clients representative regularly, providing a high level of customer service that is courteous and professional at all times.

Checking the equipment requires training, however in short, you will be visually assessing the equipment as well as completing physical checks such as extinguisher mechanisms through to unreeling fire hoses to ensure the mechanism allows for the entire length of the hose to be easily unrolled. In addition, you maybe conducting pressure tests on fire hoses through to replacing fire extinguishers that require refilling or overhaul.

Every site visit requires precise and detailed reports and documentation which is handed in at the end of each day in order for the administration team to process documents, email clients reports and invoice clients. Job sheets are also used to track your daily activities and to monitor your productivity, where set targets are expected to be met on a daily basis.

When you are not conducting site visits you will be working at our clients workshop in numerous activities across;

Employment Structure

This is a Temp to Perm role, where the successful candidate will initially work through Staff-Net on a casual basis at the direction of our client. Once our client is satisfied that the successful candidate is able to carry out the job functions to a high standard as well as displayed a strong work ethic, especially with attendance, punctuality and productivity they will be signed over to our clients books on a permanent basis. This may take anywhere between 3 to 6 months.

The Candidate

Candidates do not require any specific qualifications or past work experience as a Fire Fighting Equipment Technician, where as mentioned a 2 week paid training period will be provided.

Applicants that have experience as a Fire Fighting Equipment Technician are encouraged to apply, where higher pay rates maybe available depending on your experience.

For applicants that do not possess any past experience as a Fire Fighting Equipment Technician we will be focusing on candidates past work history, through to their communications skills, presentation and attitude.

Essential criteria required by candidates to be considered for the Fire Fighting Equipment Technician role include;

WA C (Manual) Class Drivers License

Possess or be able to acquire a White card

Possess or be able to acquire a High Risk Fork Lift License

Be able to acquire a National Police Clearance

Be able to acquire a Working with Children Check

Be able to pass regular Drug & Alcohol Screens

Be able to work autonomously without supervision

Have a very good understanding of the Perth Metro Area

Have excellent personal grooming and presentation

Be customer service focused and maintain a highly professional service to clients at all times

Have excellent written and verbal English skills

Have excellent time management skills where you are able to plan your day and be able to stick to schedules and appointments

Have the intention of securing ongoing permanent work

Be physically fit and able to carry out physical tasks regularly

Remuneration

Pay rates vary depending on if you have experience in a similar role or require training through to attitude, communication skills and past work history.

$38.00 to $45.00 Per Hour (Flat)

+ Super

Once signed over onto our clients books you should receive a pay rate similar to your casual pay rate where you will receive leave entitlements such as holiday and sick pay.

Our client is also able to provide opportunities for additional training and career development, where higher pay rates will apply.
