Mental Health and Wellbeing Specialist Role
As a Mental Health and Wellbeing Specialist, you will be an integral part of our Student Advocacy and Mental Health Services Team. Your primary focus will be on delivering preventative and targeted wellbeing support to students.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide professional student support services, including therapeutic, psychological, and counselling services.
* Develop, coordinate, and deliver small group tier two interventions to promote student mental health and overall wellbeing.
* Assist in the day-to-day intake and support processes within our Wellbeing Hub.
* Serve as the initial point of contact for staff and students accessing the Wellbeing Hub.
* Offer individualised support to students, encompassing counselling, implementation of Mental Health support plans, and development of safety plans.
* Collaborate closely with Principals, Sub-school Leaders, Student Advocacy and Mental Health Support Team, Teachers, and external agencies to develop and implement policies and practices that foster student success, engagement, and wellbeing.
* Maintain accurate records, case notes, and ensure that student information is up to date in accordance with policy and guidelines.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Demonstrated expertise in 1-1 and small group counselling/therapeutic skills when working with secondary age students experiencing mental health and wellbeing concerns.
* Able to understand, empathise with, and support students in a variety of challenging personal situations through a strong understanding of trauma and child and adolescent development.
* Proficient in conducting risk assessments, developing safety plans, and providing follow-up support and referral for treatment as indicated.
* Able to engage and assess young people and their family to determine their wellbeing needs and assist them to access necessary supports and services.
* Possess the capacity to liaise, collaborate, and develop positive partnerships with agencies and community services to improve outcomes for students.
* Experience in the development and delivery of proactive programs to cultivate optimism, resilience, regulation, coping, health, and wellbeing and interpersonal skills in adolescents.
* Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to maintain comprehensive confidential case notes.
