The Role
As a Security Advisor in the Security Incident Coordination Centre, you will:
Understand the security risk context within the Defence environment to provide advice on complex security matters.
Identify, research, and analyse complex protective security issues to provide guidance and direction to stakeholders to manage security incidents.
Collate research and analyse protective security data to contribute to the development of reports, submissions, briefings, and discussion papers.
As a Security Investigator in the Security Investigation Unit, you will:
Exercise initiative and judgement in the interpretation of Commonwealth security policy and legislation as well as Defence security policy.
Engage with stakeholders across Defence, including other Defence Investigative Authorities and partner agencies.
Demonstrate sound judgement, exceptional attention to detail, and a proven track record in collaborating to achieve timely and quality evidence-based outcomes.
About our Team
The Security Incident Coordination Centre (SICC) and the Security Investigation Unit (SIU) form part of the Security Threat and Assurance Branch, which undertakes a range of specialist enterprise security functions to protect Defence personnel, information, and capabilities from security threats.
The SICC is responsible for assessing all security reports related to the Department's people, information, and assets.
They provide complex protective security advice to stakeholders to enable appropriate security controls.
The SICC works closely with other Directorates and key stakeholders across Defence to ensure security incidents are managed and mitigated effectively.
The SIU undertakes complex and sensitive security investigations by interpreting and complying with legislation, policy, and procedures to deliver outcomes in a high-tempo environment.
Investigations are underpinned by robust evidence and require high attention to detail.
Our Ideal Candidate
The SICC is seeking a highly motivated APS 6 candidate capable of assessing security reports in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
The SIU seeks experienced APS 6 investigators who can exercise initiative and judgement in conducting security investigations in accordance with legislation and policy.

Demonstrate the ability to lead and perform complex administrative or coordination tasks;
Have excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise with stakeholders across all levels;

Security Clearance
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Negative Vetting Level 2".
Mandatory Qualifications
Certificate IV in Government Investigations or the ability to obtain it (Security Investigators).
