Job Title: Senior Legal Expert
The role of the Principal Legal Officer is a key position in the Commercial Law Section, requiring a subject matter expert who can supervise and provide guidance to lawyers within their team.
A key aspect of this role is managing complex or sensitive matters, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently. This involves engaging effectively with stakeholders through clear communication and comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter, adopting a pragmatic approach to problem-solving while delivering exceptional customer service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and developing a team, setting goals, and driving performance through effective performance management. They will also delegate work appropriately and measure performance, collaborating with other team members to manage workflow and reporting.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Principal Legal Officer will work closely with Senior Executive Service (SES) to ensure appropriate briefing, escalation, and support for the team.
Education and Experience Information:
Essential Qualifications:
* A degree in law from an Australian university or a comparable overseas degree recognised in Australia for admission to practise.
* Possession of a Practising Certificate or eligibility to attain one.
* At least three years of post-qualification experience.
Desirable Skills:
* Specialised knowledge and experience in commercial law advisory work, particularly in government procurement and contracting, grants, and property.
* High-quality management and leadership skills to effectively manage and develop senior legal officers and legal officers.
* Strong technical legal advice writing, second counselling, and research skills.
* Sophisticated relationship management, communication, and negotiation skills to develop productive relationships with stakeholders and provide excellent client service.
