Performance Architect (Remote from anywhere in AUS).
Must hold PR or Citizen.
We are seeking an elite level Performance Architect with deep expertise in large-scale, high-availability systems and advanced cloud architecture. You will play a key role in ensuring our platforms deliver exceptional performance, scalability, and reliability—meeting the demands of mission-critical, globally distributed services.
As a senior technical contributor, you’ll architect, design, test, and optimise architectures capable of handling significant scale, leveraging your experience as a Tier 1 AWS Cloud Architect (or equivalent) to ensure robust infrastructure performance under heavy load. You will work closely with engineering, DevOps, and product teams to create performance-focused solutions that meet stringent SLAs.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Architect, implement, and optimise large-scale, high-throughput systems.
- Lead performance engineering, profiling, and tuning for distributed applications and microservices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise application performance at both the infrastructure and code level.
- Ensure high availability, low latency, and fault-tolerant system design.
- Build monitoring and observability frameworks to track performance trends.
- Provide architectural recommendations for scaling infrastructure and services efficiently.
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of experience working with large-scale, mission-critical systems with zero downtime in an elite performance environment.
- Proven track record of architecting performance applications and system design.
- Expert-level understanding of database internals, including locking mechanisms (row vs. table, optimistic vs. pessimistic), query execution plans, and their performance trade-offs.
- In-depth knowledge of network protocols and their performance implications, including a solid command of the TCP/IP stack and the practical differences between HTTP/1.1 and HTTP/2.
- Advanced knowledge of Linux/Unix system administration and kernel tuning for high-performance applications (e.g., ulimit, swappiness, network stack tuning).
- Deep understanding of system architecture and networking, including caching, distributed systems, Kubernetes (k8s) architecture, and networking protocols.
- Proficiency with advanced monitoring and observability tools like Dynatrace for generating performance metrics and actionable insights.
- Expertise in the principles of code profiling and optimisation, including algorithm selection, data structure efficiency, and concurrency patterns.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance performance, scalability, and technical constraints.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting architectural rationales to diverse audiences.
