Overview

The Adolescent and Family Counsellor will provide person centred support and a strengths-based, psychological therapeutic and cooperative approach to assisting young people and families. The primary goal is to effect reconciliation between young people and their families, to ensure young people stay within the family home, are restored to their family or work towards independent living where acceptable and appropriate. The role offers information and advice, support, advocacy and counselling, alongside medium to long term casework, mediation and referrals to relevant agencies or specialist services. The Counsellor will build skills to help individual young people achieve personal goals and facilitate instructional/skills development and therapeutic groups to develop life skills for young people and parenting skills for families.

Employment details

- Permanent Part Time - 4 days per week
- Location: Cessnock

Responsibilities

- Provide person centred support and a strengths-based, psychological therapeutic and collaborative approach to assisting young people and families
- Facilitate information and advice, support, advocacy and counselling
- Deliver medium to long term casework, mediation and referrals to relevant agencies or specialist services
- Develop skills to help individual young people achieve personal goals
- Facilitate instructional/skills development and therapeutic groups to develop life skills for young people and parenting skills for families

Experience / Essential

- Demonstrated skills in assessment, referrals, and coordination of care for young people
- Ability to use person centred frameworks and a strengths-based approach in casework and counselling with various intervention models
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and understanding of mediation and conflict resolution
- Experience developing, implementing and evaluating skills-based and therapeutic groups with young people and parents
- Ability to develop and maintain linkages with government, community and corporate stakeholders
- Experience working independently and within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to maintain comprehensive and professional client information

Qualifications

- NSW Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, First Aid & CPR certificate
- Willingness to undertake a pre-employment functional medical
