The Community Services Group develops, maintains and analyses national data to support monitoring and reporting of:

* the health and welfare of key subpopulations, including older Australians, people with disability, dementia, and victims and perpetrators of family, domestic and sexual violence
* use of services within a range of health and welfare sectors, including community-based services focused on aged care and disability
* pathways and outcomes for the general population, key subpopulations and health and welfare service users.

There are three aged care units in the Community Services Group: the Aged Care Data Improvement Unit, the GEN and Aged Care Data Unit, and the Ageing and Aged Care Analysis Unit.

The Aged Care Data Improvement Unit (ACDIU) undertakes a range of aged care data improvement activities to support the national aged care data system to provide timely, reliable, and comprehensive information that is responsive to the needs of various users in the system. In response to the Aged Care Data and Digital Strategy 2024-29, a key part of the ACDIU data improvement work is the development of national aged care data standards for the Aged Care National Minimum Data Set (NMDS) and National Best Practice Data Set (NBPDS) specifications. The ACDIU is also responsible for reporting on targets to reduce the number of young people in residential aged care, along with aged care analytical reports.

The Community Services Group is looking for two data development officers with skills in research, stakeholder engagement, data development, and project support. The position will work as part of the data improvement team developing an Aged Care National Minimum Data Set (NMDS). The role will involve conducting background research, liaising with stakeholders, taking part in consultations, and developing data item specifications for inclusion in the AIHW’s Metadata Online Registry METEOR. The position may also undertake Secretariat responsibilities for aged care committees and working groups. This role requires a well-rounded applicant who can bring their strong organisational, communication and project management skills, and an understanding of metadata.
