Where you'll be working

Join a supportive and multidisciplinary team at Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Hunter Valley as a Clinical Psychologist or Clinical Psychologist in Training. This permanent, part‐time opportunity (3 days per week) is based at the HNE High Street Campus in Maitland, with free on‐site parking and occasional travel across the Hunter Valley region to support clinical care.

At CAMHS Hunter Valley, you'll work in a collaborative environment where shared expertise, reflective practice, and professional support are central to delivering meaningful outcomes for children, young people, and their families. Our model of care combines evidence‐based individual therapy with dual‐clinician and family‐focused approaches, recognising the importance of holistic, system‐based support in achieving lasting change.

You'll be backed by strong clinical governance and connected to broader CAMHS and Mental Health Service networks, with a culture that values teamwork, shared decision‐making, ongoing learning, and innovative, safe clinical practice.

About The Role

In this role, you'll deliver specialist mental health assessments, treatment, and care coordination for children and adolescents experiencing complex and severe mental health challenges. Working closely with young people, families, and carers, you'll support recovery, stabilisation, and positive transitions through care.

Your days will include multidisciplinary case discussions, therapeutic interventions delivered independently or alongside another clinician, and collaborative care planning. Clinical work is primarily office‐based in Maitland, with opportunities to provide telehealth and outreach services to satellite locations, helping improve access to care across the region.

You'll also build strong partnerships with families, schools, GPs, NGOs, and other CAMHS teams across the Hunter New England network, providing consultation and coordinated support to ensure young people receive connected, person‐centred care.

About You

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled clinician who brings experience in delivering therapeutic interventions for complex child and adolescent mental health presentations. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility in managing competing demands and be able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment. A collaborative approach is essential, including openness to having clinical work reviewed as part of risk management and continuous service improvement processes.

A strong commitment to quality care and the ability to identify and act on opportunities to enhance clinical practice and improve consumer outcomes are also important. Psychologists should have experience in evidence‐based therapeutic and behavioural interventions and have an interest in addressing the systemic/family attachment drivers that may exist.

While experience in family therapy is beneficial, it is not essential. Training and mentorship are available for specific family therapy models, e.g. FBT‐E.
