Senior Mechatronic Engineer – Manufacturing Systems (MicroTau)
Location: Marrickville, New South Wales, Australia
MicroTau is improving aviation efficiency using shark-skin drag-reduction technology to save fuel and reduce emissions.
We are hiring 2 × Senior Mechatronic Engineers to design and deliver manufacturing systems that meet product and manufacturing requirements.
What You Will Do
Lead the technical definition, design, demonstration, and delivery of robust, repeatable and reproducible manufacturing systems and processes, ensuring target yields and throughputs are met.
Drive complex manufacturing-system mechanical, optomechanical and control systems designs, generating bill of materials and relevant design files that meet Quality Management System requirements.
Define and review tests and experiments to verify and validate manufacturing-system performance using statistical reasoning.
Mentor MicroTau engineers and review engineering documents.
What Success Looks Like
First Month: Introduced to one of our core manufacturing systems and review experimental and test documentation related to the rig.
First Six Months: Conduct experiments and choose mechatronic components for the next-generation rig, meeting all manufacturing criteria for scale manufacturing.
First Year: Complete design, assembly, testing and handover of our core manufacturing system for scale manufacturing, becoming a subject-matter expert and mentor to many team members.
About You
Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
5+ years of relevant work experience.
Highly skilled in designing mechatronic systems, proficient in SolidWorks and PLC control (Beckhoff preferable).
Detail-oriented for component selection in mechanical design and problem-solving process.
Experience designing mechatronic systems to position optical components down to micron accuracy.
Hands-on, proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Why Join MicroTau
Impact: Aviation is a hard-to-abate industry—join our mission to improve global fleet efficiency and save millions of tonnes of CO2 each year.
Technology: Work with advanced materials, photolithography, fluid dynamics and scale manufacturing expertise.
Team: We live our values of lift over drag, active transparency and changing the boundary conditions, welcoming those who want to make a difference.
Corporate Jet: We have a corporate jet (almost) that looks cool.
