James Cook University (JCU) is excited to announce the establishment of the JCU Tropical Marine and Coastal Institute a transformative new platform uniting JCU's world-leading expertise in marine, catchment and coastal research.
As climate change intensifies and tropical ecosystems face unprecedented pressures, this institute cements JCU's position at the forefront of science-based solutions for sustainable resource management, restoration and policy impact.
In this pivotal role, the inaugural Director will formulate and execute strategic and operational plans aligned with the University's vision, foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and build a strong research culture.
They will identify and secure substantial research funding, develop large-scale research opportunities and build and sustain effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
The Director will also ensure robust financial, governance and compliance outcomes and champion a culture of high performance, research integrity, teamwork and innovation.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph D or equivalent and have a distinguished international research track record in a relevant field.
The Director will bring senior leadership experience in strategic planning and resource management within the higher education and research sector, as well as a proven ability to drive business development, build large-scale research programs and deliver impactful outcomes in marine, coastal, or catchment research.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal and team-building skills are essential.
Based in Townsville and reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, the Director will also undertake a personal program of world-class research in your area of expertise.
