Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent (Fractional appointment will be considered)
Classification: Staff Specialist / Senior Specialist
Total Salary Package: $305,300 to $404,970 (pro rata for part time)
Package inclusive of Base Salary $188,151 to $254,198 + Attraction and Retention Incentive + Private Practice Scheme Allowance + On-call allowance + Medical Education Expense Allowance + Superannuation (12%) - Note: Starting base salary will be negotiated within this classification for the successful candidate, depending on experience and expertise.

About the Role:

Position Overview

These roles will be joint appointments across Canberra Hospital and North Canberra Hospital.

It is a very exciting time for the Canberra Hospital Emergency Department (ED), with the new ED within the Critical Services Building having opened late last year. The new department is a modern, expanded physical space with innovative models of care including a specialised children’s area, additional triage capacity with a dedicated ambulance arrivals triage, and a behavioural assessment unit.

We are one of the busiest EDs in the country:

We are seeing over 100,000 presentations per annum.

-

We have approximately 25% paediatric presentations.

-

We have high acuity with admission rates of more than 25%.

-

We have a significant trauma caseload.

-

There is potential for FACEMs to be involved in the Regional Aeromedical Retrieval Service, the Inpatient Trauma Service, and the Australian National University.

There are opportunities to make a significant contribution to a growing department.

-

North Canberra Hospital is home to a medium-large metropolitan Emergency Department. We are going through an exciting time of integrating models of care with the larger territory facility and commencing planning for a new Northside Hosptial.

We are ~ 62,500 presentations per annum.

-

We have approximately 15% paediatric presentations.

-

Innovative Staffing Model with extensive CMO, Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Practice Physiotherapists contributing.

Strong research links are maintained with the ANU, University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University. All specialties are represented with the exception of organ transplantation. The hospital has well developed post graduate teaching programs. A fully equipped medical library is available on site with a large collection of hard copy and on line journals and textbooks.

The preferred candidate maybe considered for a conjoint position in ANU at an academic level commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The academic position will be held for the duration of the Canberra Health Services employment and will be subject to regular performance reviews. No remuneration is attached to the University position. The employee will be responsible to the University on academic matters and to The Canberra Hospital & Health Services / Canberra Health Services for clinical/ research matters.

Hold Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency

Meet credentialing requirements and receive an Endorsed scope of clinical practice from the Medical Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC)

Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
