About The Role
The Community Recovery Rebuild Support Officer initiative is part of the Community Health and Wellbeing package (the Package) which has been included within the Category C exceptional circumstances funding.
It will support long-term recovery and resilience of disaster affected communities following the North and Far North Queensland Tropical Low, 29 January – 28 February 2025.
This is a valuable fixed term opportunity to contribute to community recovery and resilience work in Townsville.
In this role, you will work directly with communities affected by disaster events to deliver recovery activities that support people's social and emotional wellbeing. You will provide tailored case management for disaster impacted individuals and families, helping them understand their options, access relevant funding and support services, and navigate the process of repairing or restoring their homes to safe and habitable conditions.
You will work closely with teams across Council to coordinate human-social, environmental, infrastructure and economic recovery activities, ensuring resources are used effectively and recovery actions stay on track. Building strong relationships with local and district stakeholders will be central to your work, enabling you to support ongoing recovery, strengthen community connections and help build household preparedness and resilience for future disasters.
You will also contribute to the operation of the Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group and provide practical support during recovery activations.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
Qualifications (or equivalent experience) in Disaster Management, Human Services (or other Social Sciences), Community Development or Community Engagement.
Experience working within either disaster management, recovery and resilience functions, community development or community engagement roles.
Experience in delivering community-led recovery and resilience projects and resulting action plans that utilise place-based approaches to engage across sectors, business and communities to enhance resilience.
Ability to plan and deliver widespread community engagement activities to discuss the recovery process and to identify the needs and aspirations of diverse groups.
Strong ability to work under pressure during intense community engagement activities, including engaging with community members who have been exposed to trauma and direct impacts of disaster.
Well-developed relationship management skills and demonstrated experience in collaboration and negotiation to provide excellent community and stakeholder engagement.
