Southern Steel QLD is a leader in steel distribution and processing, using advanced CNC machinery, robotics, and software across our operations. We’re seeking a skilled Engineering Technologist to join our Wacol team in a permanent, full-time role.
The Role
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you’ll play a key part in keeping our high-tech machinery running safely and efficiently. This role offers variety — from commissioning new equipment to troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving existing systems.
What you’ll do:
- Install, commission, and maintain CNC machinery and robotic profiling equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and programming issues
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance to minimise downtime
- Create and conduct test procedures, inspections, and fault diagnoses
- Support and train operators and staff on safe and effective equipment use
- Assist with modifications and improvements to enhance productivity
What we’re looking for:
- 3 years’ industry experience
- Knowledge of CNC control systems, motion control, PLCs, and embedded systems
- Proficiency in CAD design (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Tekla, Inventor)
- Robust problem-solving and technical skills across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Understanding of WHS and ISO9001 requirements
