The Role

We are seeking an Aboriginal Mental Health Worker to join the East Arnhem Mental Health Service in an identified position. This role recognises that your cultural knowledge, lived experience, and connection to community are essential strengths in supporting Aboriginal people.

The primary purpose of this role is to promote Aboriginal culture and cultural practices within the Mental Health Service and to provide culturally informed guidance to staff. You will support the delivery of culturally safe mental health care by providing cultural consultation, advocating for Aboriginal clients, and working collaboratively with clinicians and community services.

You will:

* Provide cultural advice and consultation to the Mental Health Team
* Support culturally informed assessments, interventions and follow-up care
* Advocate for Aboriginal clients and families to ensure access to appropriate services
* Promote Aboriginal participation in the planning and development of mental health services
* Deliver and participate in cultural awareness and mental health education activities
* Contribute to community development, prevention and mental health promotion initiatives
* Assist with documentation, data collection and service quality requirements
* This role involves regular travel to remote communities by light aircraft or 4WD.

About You

You are proud of your Aboriginal identity and have strong connections to community. You understand the importance of culture, kinship and community in supporting social and emotional wellbeing. You are confident working alongside clinicians while also advocating for culturally responsive approaches.

You bring:

* Strong communication skills and the ability to work across community and clinical settings
* An understanding of Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing frameworks
* The ability to build respectful relationships with community members, Elders and service providers
* Willingness to travel to remote communities
