About the Role

We are looking for a permanent (full or part time) Senior Invertebrate Ecologist with short-range endemic (SRE) invertebrate fauna experience, preferably in environmental consulting in Western Australia. The Senior Invertebrate Ecologist will assist the Invertebrate Fauna team to conduct SRE invertebrate fauna surveys, sort and morphologically identify SRE invertebrate fauna specimens and data for further molecular analysis. The majority of our work is for environmental impact assessment and the sorting and identification of a variety of invertebrate fauna groups enables us to provide accurate assessments of SRE invertebrate fauna biodiversity.

What You\'ll Do

- Lead SRE invertebrate fauna field surveys, in accordance with client specific HSE requirements and current EPA guidelines in a range of remote environments across WA
- Data analysis and interpretation to prepare clear and concise technical reports against current EPA guidelines
- Support team to sort, identify taxa and organise scientific samples
- Ensure accuracy in data collection and recording
- Follow processing procedures and look for efficiencies in workflow
- Manage specimens within storage areas, ensuring correct storage and handling techniques
- Guide and mentor up and coming zoologists and collaborate with senior zoologists
- Liaise with clients regarding data requirements and survey planning

About You

- Hold relevant tertiary qualifications in zoology, biological or environmental science, or other relevant degree
- Three to five years of experience conducting invertebrate fauna field surveys, ideally with an environmental consultancy
- Taxonomic experience in SRE invertebrate fauna groups is ideal, however any invertebrate taxonomic experience is acceptable
- Proven experience leading or being a part of field teams including a solid safety record
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate field work
- Lab experience, particularly handling, identifying and storing invertebrate specimens
- An understanding of data requirements for environmental consultancy survey reports
- Project management and budget tracking experience
- SRE Invertebrate fauna report writing experience, in accordance with current EPA guidance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with developed technical report writing skills
