Tenkate Plant Hire is a well-established heavy earthmoving equipment rental business with more than 50 years of operation in Queensland. We're looking for an experienced finance professional to take ownership of all financial operations across the business — and to work as a genuine partner to the leadership team, not just a back-office function.
This is a part-time role with real scope but for someone who prefers a shorter working week and flexibility. You'll report directly to the Managing Director, manage day-to-day finance across multiple entities, and contribute to decisions that shape how the business performs and grows.
The Role
• Minimum 3 days per week, with full-time attendance expected during the onboarding period — flexible arrangements available thereafter
• Based at Moffat Beach Business Park, Caloundra
• Target start: June / July 2026
• Small, close-knit office team of approximately 10 people
What You'll Be Doing
• All day-to-day accounting functions including AP/AR, reconciliations and clerical financial support
• End-to-end payroll processing and ATO compliance — BAS, PAYG, FBT and Superannuation
• Financial reporting including fixed assets register and cashflow management
• Month-end close including journals and accruals
• Proactive reporting that surfaces risks and opportunities early — genuine finance partnership, not just number-crunching
• Collaborate with administration, operations and HR to resolve issues and drive efficiencies
• Contribute to process improvement projects with a hands-on, pragmatic approach
About You
Essential:
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a finance or accounting role
• Strong background in tax, regulatory compliance and financial management
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency across MS Office
• Proven ability to work effectively in a small, busy team — and to engage as part of a leadership group, not just within your immediate function
• Experience with accounting software (MYOB, Xero or similar); willingness to learn new systems
• A collaborative, solutions-focused approach — experience with process improvement or change projects is well regarded
Highly regarded:
• Background in earthmoving, plant hire, construction or a related trade industry
• Experience with cloud-based accounting platforms such as Xero
