Youth Caseworker & Mentoring Support
21 hrs pw (Level 4, SCHADS Award 2025) • Gosford Area High Schools

About Volunteering Central Coast
Join a small, passionate team dedicated to strengthening community connection and wellbeing across the NSW Central Coast. In addition to supporting hundreds of volunteers and over 60 local organisations, we deliver community-focused programs that build resilience and tackle social isolation. Our Youth Support program—a targeted early intervention (TEI) initiative in two local high schools—combines dedicated casework with a vibrant mentoring scheme to help students aged 12–17 set goals, access supports and thrive.

Autonomy within a close-knit team: Manage your own caseload and mentor matches, with direct support from the Executive Officer and Youth Programs team.

Flexible arrangements: 21 hrs/week with scope to negotiate times and opportunities for occasional remote work. Scope for additional hours following probation.

Professional development focus: Access training and practice knowledge, peer-learning sessions. During induction, we'll co-create a personalised self-care and wellbeing plan.

Role variety: Blend casework and mentoring tasks—mentoring activities provide a change of pace and help sustain your energy.

Engage students in a structured TEI casework program: intake, assessment, goal-setting and progress reviews

Broker and follow up on referrals to mental-health, family-support and community services

Support young people's transition into the mentoring program

Partner with the Youth Mentoring Officer to identify young people, match mentors and students, monitor relationships and provide ongoing check-ins

Stakeholder Engagement (15%)

Cultivate partnerships: Build and sustain relationships with school wellbeing and counselling teams, DCJ, health services, cultural supports, TAFE and other key agencies

Leverage trust: Gather insights on students' needs and engagement preferences—and share them with schools and service providers to foster holistic, collaborative support

Family engagement: Maintain regular communication with families/carers to align supports and manage school expectations

Compliance & Reporting (10%)

Uphold child safety cultural safety principals. Ensure that we are compliant with privacy, confidentiality and funding-agreement requirements

Maintain accurate case-management records and reporting systems, including data entry into DEX

Prepare monthly progress reports and contribute data for VCC's Annual Report

Culture, Teamwork & WHS (10%)

Co-create and maintain a self-care and boundary-setting plan with your supervisor

Participate in regular reflective practice and peer-support sessions to share insights and sustain wellbeing

Engage in team meetings, VCC events and promote safe work practices

About You

Diploma (or higher) in Community Services, Youth Work, Social Services or related field

Minimum 3 years' experience in case management or youth support

Demonstrated experience—or strong willingness to learn—in volunteer coordination and mentoring

Deep understanding of child-safe standards, mandatory reporting and adolescent development

Excellent communication, planning and data-management skills

High resilience, sound judgment and a collaborative mindset

Proven ability to set and maintain professional boundaries to safeguard both client and personal wellbeing

Desirable: Experience in trauma-informed practice

Requirments

Working with Children Check (current or ability to obtain before starting)

Valid NSW driver's licence and access to reliable vehicle

Ability to obtain National Police Check clearance

Australian citizenship, permanent residency or valid work visa required
