This role involves designing a set of 60 double-sided communication cards tailored for children in healthcare environments. The cards are intended to help young patients from diverse backgrounds articulate their feelings and navigate unfamiliar or stressful experiences. The ideal candidate will bring a signature, hand-drawn illustration style that is warm, approachable, and uncluttered, ensuring each object or scenario is instantly recognizable to children. Visual clarity, inclusivity, and consistency across all cards are paramount. The project requires strict adherence to provided visual and typographic guidelines, including the use of a teal and rust palette with dark neutrals, and a focus on white space, hierarchy, and layout. You will collaborate closely with a paediatric safeguarding advisor to ensure the cards are both clinically clear and artistically engaging.
Deliverables
* Create 60 double-sided communication cards, each featuring clear, hand-drawn illustrations and concise, child-friendly content.
* Ensure all cards adhere to specified visual and typographic guidelines, including color palette, white space, and layout hierarchy.
* Develop artwork that is inclusive, approachable, and suitable for children from diverse backgrounds and with complex chronic illnesses.
* Maintain consistency in style, tone, and clarity across the entire deck.
* Collaborate with the paediatric safeguarding advisor to review and refine card concepts and final designs.
* Prepare print-ready files for production, ensuring high-quality output and color accuracy.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a graphic designer or illustrator, preferably with a focus on educational or healthcare-related materials for children.
* Strong portfolio demonstrating hand-drawn, signature illustration style with an emphasis on clarity and warmth.
* Ability to interpret and apply detailed visual and typographic guidance.
* Excellent understanding of color theory, especially working with teal, rust, and dark neutrals.
* Commitment to inclusivity and sensitivity in visual storytelling for children from diverse backgrounds.
