Primary objective
Responsible for the direct provision of clinical pharmacy advice and services to clients and staff of Prison Health, with an emphasis
on customer focused continuous quality improvement.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide a clinical pharmacy service in accordance with departmental guidelines to nominated corrections facilities.
2. Provide supervision and support to pharmacy technical staff in accordance with Northern Territory Medicines, Poisons and
Therapeutic Goods Act.
3. Coordinate supply of medications for corrections clients including related counselling.
4. Provide culturally appropriate medicines information and education for clients and Prison Health staff when required.
5. Assist with data collection for pharmacy service evaluation and to ensure compliance with the National Safety and Quality
Health Service Standard 4, Medication Safety and deliver workplace improvements.
6. Assist with drug distribution and maintenance of accurate prescription records.
7. Actively contribute to the continuing professional development of self and others through in-services and training.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Contribute to afterhours roster as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy and Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
2. Demonstrated sound level of current clinical pharmacy practice and knowledge.
3. Proven ability to contribute positively to the workplace, deliver workplace improvements, and willingness to participate in
continuing education activities both of self and provision of sessions to Prison Health staff members.
4. Ability to think laterally and problem solve independently with initiative.
5. Demonstrated flexibility, commitment, ability to negotiate and develop effective working relationships to achieve team goals.
6. Sound communication skills both written and oral and ability to contribute effectively as active member of a multidisciplinary
team.
7. Demonstrated time management skills to allow the prioritisation and completion of tasks within expected timeframes.
8. An awareness and understanding of Indigenous culture and an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Experience working in a Hospital Pharmacy or NT Remote Primary Health Setting or a post graduate clinical qualification.
